Must Read: 5 Great Reasons You Should Start Guest Blogging Today
There are lots of times bloggers get rejected (like I do) when they pitch top blogs or their favorite blog authors for guest blogging opportunities; most of these times, they are not rejected because their posts sucks or because of their blog name (or think of any other excuse), but mostly because they are breaking some important guest blogging etiquettes that must be obeyed.
Just like life and business, guest blogging also has its etiquettes and rules, if you break them, your guest posts will always get rejected (it’s as simple as that) but obey them and almost every of your guest posts will be published.
In this post, we will be having a look at some of these guest blogging etiquettes you should follow as a blogger. I will be sharing with you seven (7) of them based on my experience from guest blogging on various top blogs.
Let’s Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#1. Write a Polite Pitch
You should always remember that first impression last longer; your guest post pitch will usually be the first interaction between you and your host blog author. So, keep it polite and simple.
You may feel you are a great writer and a known blogger, but the blogger you are mailing may not have a clue of who you are, so try to introduce yourself and tell him what you want to write about and keep it short in a polite, professional way.
#2. Follow the Host Blog Guest Blogging Guidelines
As I said earlier, guest blogging has its own rules and these rules may vary from blog to blog. Most blogs out there now have a guest blogging guidelines page which has everything the host author requires when it comes to guest blogging on his/her blog.
Usually, it is in this guideline that you will find the topics the blog accepts, post lengths, how many links are allowed, and lots of other information. Make sure you read your host blog guidelines page thoroughly (at least twice), and follow the guidelines as stated there so that your guest post will be accepted.
#3. Don’t Spam with Your Guest Posts
These days, bloggers (especially newbies) are hungry for backlinks more than anything, we all know your blog needs backlinks, but you need to be patient and build these links gradually. When you are writing a guest post, never should you bombard your post with links back to almost every page on your blog, you should never guest blog just because you want some links, there are lots of other benefits that you get from guest blogging; backlinks is just a side benefit of guest blogging.
you should limit the number of links to your blog pages to just 2-3 links if the host blog does not have a specified amount in her guidelines else you will look like a SPAMMER and get rejected.

#4. Give You Best in Your Guest Post
It is natural has a human to feel like holding back some things especially when you are not writing for your blog, but verily I say unto you, this is a BAD IDEA when it comes to guest blogging. If you want to have a successful guest post, you must create your best copy and send it out there.
You should never churn out a short, scanty and sloppy guest post just because you want to build links or just get your name out there, you should remember that guest blogging is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself to a brand new larger audience and you have to Impress them else the purpose of your guest post is forfeited.
To me, it is better you don’t guest post at all, than to put out a bad copy that will tarnish your name and brand out there!!!
#5. Don’t Duplicate Your Guest Posts
The most annoying thing you can ever do is to “Duplicate Your Guest Posts”. Submitting the same guest post to different blogs is a NO-NO; it does not really matter if you edit it or change the post title, it very important that you don’t use the same post on two or more blogs.
Every guest post should be unique, and as you know that search engines now demote rankings of sites with duplicate content, so doing this is like actually putting the host blog into trouble.

#6. Respond To Comments
Gone are the days of little to no interaction, now bloggers take interaction more serious more than before and the only way interaction occurs on a blog is via the comments.
If you are lucky to get your post accepted and published, don’t go A.W.O.L. make sure you stick around to reply commentators on your post; interact with the community there and be polite if you get into any debate with the commentators.
#7. Be Grateful
You should be grateful to the blogger that gave you the opportunity to guest post on his blog (sorry to the female folks); it’s a big deal for someone to give you the key to his blog and audience for free. You should be grateful and thankful for the opportunity.
